Played by hand
Boccette online
- By hand
- 4 balls each
- 5 pins
No cue here: the balls are rolled or thrown by hand. Each player has four balls, white or red; on the table there is a small target ball, the pallino, and a castle of five pins.
A bit like bocce, at the end of each round the player with the balls nearest the pallino scores (1, 3, 5 or 8 points for one to four balls). Meanwhile you knock your opponent’s balls into the pins: side pin 2, centre pin 4, the centre alone 8, all doubled if your ball touches the far cushion first. Watch out for the friso: a ball you hit must not run straight into the pins. Choose spin, power and a rolling or lofted throw.
It plays straight away in your browser, with nothing to download. To play without a connection too, download and install it as an app, on phone, tablet and computer: free, and without going through an app store.

- FIBiS boccette rules
No cue: each player rolls or throws four balls by hand (white or red) from behind the lower short cushion. There is a small blue pallino and the 5-pin castle. Get close to the pallino and knock the pins with the opponent’s balls.
Doubled when your ball touches the far short cushion first.
Scoring
- 2Outer pinEach of the four outer pins
- 4Centre pinWhen it falls with other pins
- 8Centre pin, aloneWhen it is the only pin down
- ×2Off the far cushionYour ball touches the far short cushion first: pin points double
- 1–8AccostoAt the end of a frame, balls of one colour nearer the pallino than any opposing ball: 1, 3, 5 or 8 points
- ↔Whose pinsPins knocked by the opponent’s balls or the pallino count for you; by your own balls, for the opponent
Fouls
- Friso
- A ball you hit goes straight into the pins (off a cushion is fine): every point goes to the opponent.
- Irregular throw
- Hitting a ball not fully past the centre line, or before your ball touches the cloth, or pins first: the throw is cancelled and its points go to the opponent.
- Ball off the table
- 6 points plus 2 per ball to the opponent.
- Pallino in the lower half
- You must play off the far short cushion.
A frame
- A player places the pallino in the upper half, then must hit it directly (bocciata d’acchito).
- The opponent throws next; then whoever has the worse accosto throws, until all eight balls are played.
- The winner of the accosto places the next pallino.
- The first to reach the target, with pins or the accosto, wins the set; points beyond it are lost.
Boccette goriziana
- Sets to 100–400
- FIBiS rules
Goriziana played by hand. Each player has one ball (white or red) and throws it at the shared yellow; there is also a blue pallino and the 9-pin castle. One throw each; your ball is then taken off, while the yellow and the pallino stay where they stopped.
Points count when the yellow, off a cushion, knocks the pins.
Scoring
- 2Outer pinEach of the four at the ends of the cross
- 8Inner pinEach of the four next to the centre
- 10Centre pinWhen it falls with other pins
- 30Centre pin, aloneWhen it is the only pin down
- 3PallinoYour ball touches it after the yellow, or the yellow touches it
- ×2IndirectYour ball touches a short cushion before the yellow: every point doubles, and the yellow may go straight into the pins
Fouls
Hit the yellow first; it must reach the pins or the pallino off a cushion.
- Your ball in the pins
- Your ball knocks pins after the yellow: the points go to the opponent.
- Fisso / friso
- The yellow goes straight into the pins, or sends the pallino straight into the castle: points to the opponent.
- Fouls: 6 + points
- Missing the yellow, pallino first (6 + 3), pins before the yellow, more than one short cushion before the yellow, a ball off the table (+2 each).
- Mixed points
- Points for you and for the opponent in the same throw all go to the opponent.
The set
- You always throw from the half opposite the yellow.
- The first to reach the target wins the set; points beyond it are lost.
